Cornices and Coving Many rooms, particularly in period houses have decorative plasterwork in the form of cornices and coving. Cornices are the mouldings used to hide the cracks between walls and ceilings while coving is a generic term used for any kind of moulding. They not only enhance the look of a room but they also provide a useful cover for any joins or imperfections. Most modern buildings don't use coving as new plasterwork shouldn't contain any cracks or joins if it is applied correctly, but many people choose to add it to their homes purely for decoration and style. Coving comes in a variety of pre-moulded shapes from simplistic concave forms to more elaborate Egg and Dart styles. Plastering Warrington provide a full coving service and will fit your coving to the highest standards. If you already have coving in place we can also renovate and repair any damage. Should you wish for a more modern style to your room we can also remove coving if its no longer fitting with your decor. We can also advise on the best styles and materials for your coving. Plaster Boarding Plaster boards are large gypsum panels pressed between a facer and a backer. It has replaced the traditional lath and plaster method as it is much quicker and easier to install. It is used in renovation work as well as to hide damage or to reline a wonky wall. It doesn't give as perfect a finish as a traditional plaster finish but requires less skill and time. Much of the skill of plaster boarding lies in the process of joining the boards together to create a smooth seamless surface. The quality of the jointing will have the biggest impact on the overall quality of the finished job. It is a useful option for those on a budget or who are looking to do the work themselves. Plastering Warrington are happy to quote for both traditional plastering and plasterboard work and will advise on the best options available to you. Roughcasting / Pebbledash Roughcasting is more commonly known as pebbledash and is a coarse plaster render used on exterior walls. It usually consists of cement mixed with sand and gravel or pebbles to give a highly textured effect. It was extremely popular on houses in the 1970s and 80s and is generally thought to be outdated today. It is however a relatively cheap method of rendering and is durable and hard-wearing. Plastering Wirral offer a roughcasting service and can also provide solutions for people wishing to get rid of pebbledash from their houses. Textured wall coatings can be applied hiding old and damaged pebbledash and replacing it with a modern sleek look.
